SouthFields Village Public School

SouthFields Village Public School is school to 667 elementary students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. The school offers both French Immersion and Regular Programs, including full-day kindergarten. As of today, 45% of the students are in enrolled in the French Immersion Program.

The $12 million facility is a leader in the Peel District School Board. This school is the first in the Peel District School Board to be powered by geo-thermal energy, using the earth’s thermal energy to heat and cool the building in a clean and sustainable way. There are other green features throughout the building such as a white roof to reflect the sun and sun tunnels, allowing natural light to flow into classrooms without windows. Each classroom is equipped with an LCD projection system and wireless internet access, allowing teachers to present material using slides, direct access to the web, videos and more.

SouthFields Village Public School embraces the new Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative by the Peel District School Board. Parents and students are encouraged to bring their own tablets or other devices, to enhance their learning experience. The board has even worked with a technology provider to provide access to a low-cost tablet device, helping each student have access to their own device. More information on this initiative can be found at www.peelschools/byod.

The school boasts a library, a music room including soundproof rooms, a science lab, an art room, and many sport facilities such as two soccer fields and indoor and outdoor basketball courts. More information about SouthFields Village Public School, including their vision and missions statements, contact information for the Principal Matthew McCutcheon, and Vice-Principal, Christina Brulotte, and how to become involved as a volunteer, can be found at: www.schools.peelschools.org/1454/Pages/default.aspx.
